What's new with my hair?  Well, my truly natural hair is really starting to take over my semi-natural hair.  To be more specific, I have two textures competing and the natural hair is winning.  In some areas of my head the ends are disappearing.  In other areas, the semi-natural is still strong and surviving.  I will post upclose pics soon. 

Last month, I wore a simple updo and got more compliments on that day than ever before.  I don't have pics.  I just piled my hair up, no big deal.

I learn more and more about my hair as this journey progresses.  The spritz and go does not work too well for me because my ends are not natural; they simply droop and frizz.  Its good that I prefer my hair with some curl.

Tip:  My former SL consultation advises her clients to not pull, curl, style etc. for at least a few days after a re-ti.  She feels that the extra pulling can lead to hair loss.  I have been trying to follow this advice.  To make it work for me, I shampoo and roll my hair, then re-ti the next day. 

I know I promised to do more styling and take pics.  I'm working on it.

Recent comments

I've heard a few comments about my locs in the last month that I'd like to share.

1. I mentioned to my sister that my son was using my clarifying shampoo.  She responsed, Why do you need shampoo, I thought you didn't wash your hair.  Really? 

2.  A 60 year-old white woman who works in my building asked, "Are those braids?"  I told her that they are similiar to braids but they are locs.  She replied, "I've never seen anything like it".  I'm not sure how she meant that but I took it as a compliment.

3.  A co-worker/friend who works at a different site saw me at a monthly meeting.  She is latina and stated years ago that she doesn't like braids.  In the past, she has only commented on my hair when it was straightened.  So last month, she commented that she liked my hair, that my pulled back on one side style was sexy, and that my hair was getting long.  That was a lot coming from her.

I'm 15 months into this journey and feeling amazed everyday.  I really enjoy my locs.  They seem to look a little different every week.  It is all good.  I did my last reti over three days.  I think that was the first time I ever did my whole head at the same time.  It wasn't so bad.  I received an "invitation" from my SL consultation to a retightening class.  She knows that I have retightened my own hair, since Mar. 2010.  I think I'll pass on the evite.  I plan to style and post pics much more this year.



Changes

Two weeks ago, I tried a new product, Creme of Nature Argan Oil Foaming Wrap Lotion.   I liked the smell and the hold of the curls.  I've never used any setting lotion on my locs before.  All was well for the week.  I attended a Sisterlock Customer Appreciation Luncheon and got lots of compliments.  After I shampooed my locs, I noticed a definite difference in the thickness of my locs.  I'm not happy; I really didn't need my thick locs in the front to get thicker.  I'm hoping this is temporary; I guess I will find out after the next shampoo.  It is possible that these locs are just going thru an expansion before they condense.  It really comes back to the fact that the locs are larger than they should be.  One of the SL consultants at the luncheon commented that my locs were large.  I've been trying to accept and be grateful for my locs but it is a bit of a challenge.

I'm still learning

Please forgive me for the previous post.  I tried to create a slideshow with the pics.  It got late and I got tired.  The slideshow was lost but I wanted to post something.  Those pictures range from two weeks to six months (in order).  The final pic in that post shows my locs after I did a temp color.  The two tones have become a little too drastic for me but I don't want to permanently color; I tone it down every 6 wks.  This is my hair at 8 months.
